Machine Tool
Course Descriptions
Blueprint Reading/Drawing: This course will introduce the basic principles of print reading/drawing. Topics include line types, dimensioning methods and notes. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret and create basic prints and visualize the features of a part or system. Students will learn shop and self-safety. Blood borne pathogens, fire prevention/suppression, hazardous material information, personal protective equipment, safety data sheets, emergency stop systems and lock out/tag out will be included as part of the daily instruction.
Machine Tool: Students will learn how to use and read machinist measuring tools, tape measures and learn formulas for speed and feed rates for various metals. Students will also learn on the types of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Machine ship instruction involving safety, use and care of hand and measuring tools, basic lathe and milling operations, drill press operation, tool grinding, turning, milling, threading various parts using a digital readout, etc. Students will be taught an introduction to Computer Numerical Control (CNC) using equipment to mill and plasma cut. Students will learn the basics of G-code and M-codes. Students will also learn the basics of 2D and 3D modeling using CAD/CAM software. Students will learn shop and self-safety. Blood borne pathogens, fire prevention/suppression, hazardous material information, personal protective equipment, safety data sheets, emergency stop systems and lock out/tag out will be included as part of the daily instruction.
Welding: Students will be introduced to the different types of welding instruction that includes types of joints, positions and symbols used throughout welding technology. Student will learn about the properties of metal, their classification and how to use the tools to prepare it for a weld. This is a course that exposes students to the fundamentals of drawing/reading blueprints, standards, terms and definitions used in welding instruction. Students will learn this essential skill that will apply to multiple professions primarily studying prints for welding and fabrication. Students will learn GMAW, SMAW welding using the proper equipment and accessories required to weld. Students will learn different welding techniques and positions. Students will build on knowledge throughout the course to perform horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding operations. Students will also learn some basic pip welding process and techniques. Students will learn shop and self-safety. Blood borne pathogens, fire prevention/suppression, hazardous material information, personal protective equipment, safety data sheets, emergency stop systems and lock out/tag out will be included as part of the daily instruction.
