School Board Meeting 3/26/2026
Van Buren District Secondary School's National Honor Society at the 2025-2026 State NHS Convention.
Thank you to community members and school staff for providing feedback to our science fair students during the Van Buren Mock Science Fair today. VBDSS students will be going to the Maine State Science Fair during the last weekend of March.
Mr. Ouellette’s HVAC class and Mrs. Spooner’s Forestry class recently teamed up for a hands-on maple tapping project in a local maple stand. Working together, students tapped the trees and will begin collecting sap when the weather cooperates. Next week looks good! The Forestry class will continue gathering the sap throughout the season, and the HVAC class will take on the next step—boiling it down to make maple syrup.
This project has been a great opportunity for students to collaborate across classes while learning about natural resources, sustainability, and the science behind maple syrup production.
On March 25, we will be hosting a day of maple-themed activities to share our project with students across all grade levels. We would also love to welcome classes from other schools who would like to participate and learn more about the maple sugaring process.
This project was made possible with support from a Maine Environmental Education Association Grant.
Stay tuned for more updates—and maybe even some syrup!

Congratulations to Emily Lapierre for being selected to the Statewide Class D Regional All-Star Team. Emily attended the 52nd Maine Soccer Coaches All-Star Banquet on December 7, 2025 in Bangor where she received her certificate.
Congratulations to Gavin Gagnon!
We are thrilled to share that Gavin has been selected to receive a prestigious Science Research Grant from the Marjot Foundation! This competitive award provides up to $2,500 for students across New England and New York to pursue independent environmental science research.
Gavin is no stranger to scientific inquiry—he has represented VBDSS at the Maine State Science Fair during both his freshman and sophomore years. Thanks to this grant, he will expand his research exploring the connection between bird behavior and weather patterns, a project he has already begun to develop with curiosity and dedication.
